Focus should be on methane emissions — Letter to the Editor of the Charlotte Observer
By Ron Bryant. I appreciate the Observer’s reporting on the climate treaty but want to add some important facts from Cornell University’s Methane Project. Natural gas is not a “cleaner” option to coal, as methane, including that leaked/vented from natural gas operations, is 100 times worse than CO2.
Trump ‘missed point’ — Letter to the Editor of the News & Observer
By William Delamar. When President Donald Trump characterized the Paris climate accord as a choice between Pittsburg and Paris, he missed the point. Re Ignore Liberal Anger — Letter to Charlotte Observer
By Nancy Bryant. Yes, Mr. Rogers is correct in saying, “Many….approach climate change with a near-religious zeal.” That would be me, my loved ones, and many I know. But Mr. Rogers simply doesn’t get the “why.” Christians and other people of faith worldwide are called to be stewards and caretakers of our fragile Earth.
Denying climate change won’t make it go away — Letter to the News & Observer
By Vickie Atkinson. Natural gas is a problem in itself, as William Schlesinger recently pointed out in an Nov. 23 Point of view “Duke University plant would turn away from renewable energy.” Although it burns cleaner than coal it is composed largely of methane, which is a much more potent greenhouse gas than carbon dioxide. Unfortunately Duke Energy continues to expand use of natural gas rather than prioritizing renewable sources of energy such as wind and solar.
