NC WARN is honored to have been the environmental justice co-host of several Poor People’s Campaign events focused on Ecological Devastation in August 2018.
Former Vice President Al Gore showed a huge amount of heart, mind and fire from the stage and in small group meetings, as did Rev. Dr. William J. Barber, II. They both spoke strongly about the fusion between the climate crisis, poverty, militarism, voter suppression and other assaults on the public – and the need for action. Each event was packed with attendees and filled with spirit, song and key voices of folks being harmed by Duke Energy’s coal ash and climate-wrecking practices.
We’ve long been in alliance with Rev. Barber and are pleased that Vice President Gore likes our NC Clean Path strategy. Both of them cite this state as a key front in the struggle for environmental justice, and we look forward to a heightened collaboration with the Poor People’s Campaign.
