The climate crisis is accelerating and the world’s scientists say curbing the use of methane (so-called natural gas) is the fastest way to slow it down. But Duke Energy leaders want to greatly increase their use of gas. Tell Governor Cooper to stop them.
Quick Facts:
Eighty organizations and thousands of individuals have endorsed NC WARN’s Climate Emergency campaign, asking NC Governor Roy Cooper to use his authority to prevent future climate disasters by stopping construction of gas-fired power plants, storage facilities and the Mountain Valley Pipeline.
Drew Shindell of Duke University, the lead author of a landmark United Nations report on methane in May, says: “We’re still going wildly in the wrong direction, but we can turn that around very, very quickly” by cutting methane emissions.
Shindell and 40 EPA retirees told the governor: “The climate crisis demands that we stop building fossil fuel infrastructure immediately.”
In a recent deal, Cooper provided cover to Duke Energy to continue its expansion of gas-fired power plants and a dangerous storage facility in Robeson County.
You can help! Contact the Governor and ask your organization to formally endorse the campaign.
