While drawing headlines over his climate concerns, NC Gov. Roy Cooper continues to go along with double-talk by Duke Energy and Enviva – giant corporations claiming that greatly expanding fossil fuels such as fracked gas and clear-cutting our forests to produce wood pellets for European power plants somehow helps slow the climate crisis.
On Friday, activists and impacted community members will press Cooper to become a real leader against the climate crisis by stopping these two major drivers of global warming

BACKGROUND:
A year ago, Gov. Cooper called for state agencies to create a Clean Energy Plan. The order was widely welcomed, but state staff preparing the report were prevented from considering emissions from the fracked gas pipelines and wood pellet production that are harming communities and undermining global climate protection efforts.
The good measures in Cooper’s energy plan are badly outweighed by the climate impacts of Duke Energy’s massive fossil fuel expansion and the alarming and growing destruction of our forests by the Enviva corporation. A new report by Dogwood Alliance finds that industrial logging is the state’s third worst sector for the climate – behind electricity and transportation.
