On July 14, 2021 the participants from this year’s NC WARN Youth Summer Series conducted their own youth-led climate justice webinar. After going through a month of climate education, leadership training, and organizing skill development, this inspiring group of 17 high school students from across North Carolina shared their newfound knowledge and skills with the audience.
The topics covered in the webinar include but are not limited to: environmental racism, food insecurity, Duke Energy’s monopoly and fracked gas expansion, hog farming, the power of building climate and justice coalitions, and the multitude of impacts that derive from the climate crisis.
For the second year in a row, this Youth Summer Series was a huge success with positive effects felt from both the students and NC WARN’s co-facilitators Madeline Parker and Kim Porter. We recognize the imperative of empowering youth within the climate justice movement as they become the powerful, engaging, and passionate advocates that our world needs.
