Natural Gas power plants are replacing coal plants from the 50’s and 60’s, but is natural gas a clean alternative? Can it help prevent climate change? No.
Although natural gas burns cleaner than coal in terms of particulate air pollution, the CO2 and Methane emissions make Natural Gas as bad, or worse for the climate than burning coal.
And on top of that, investing billions in new natural gas fossil fuel infrastructure like pipelines and power plants, means we are investing in at least 40-50 more years of burning climate changing gases, in a time when it is imperative we cut emissions drastically in order to avert the worst effects of catastrophic climate change.
