NC WARN is strongly opposed to Duke Energy’s announcement today that it plans to transfer its coal ash negligence to Chatham and Lee counties.
We fully share the concerns about ongoing contamination of waters at the existing coal ash sites. But we find it deeply regrettable that some parties would consider that expanding the number of contaminated sites – and abuse of local communities – could be considered a sound and just solution.
Duke continues to mislead the public and news media about the nature of its proposed dumps in Lee and Chatham.
NC WARN will continue working with community groups and ally nonprofits to help those communities and others across the state protect themselves from Duke Energy’s toxic waste negligence.
