Letter to the editor from Betsey Granda
Regarding the Jan. 8 editorial “Company’s coming”: In hosting the executives of Duke Energy and his own chief of staff and appointed environmental officials at a dinner at the Executive Mansion, Gov. Pat McCrory clearly demonstrated that his allegiances are with his benefactor and former employer, Duke Energy.
I feel embarrassed and ashamed for him in his blatant disregard of the fact that a majority of his business and public constituents have demonstrated overwhelming support for more future-oriented energy thinking.
Duke Energy, the Koch cabal and other pro-fossil fuel groups lobbied the legislature to kill the Energy Freedom Act and the extension of the state’s renewable energy tax credit.
Duke has yet to meet its obligations to communities suffering the results of its coal-ash disaster. It has maintained an evasive and cavalier attitude in regard to its responsibilities to these communities.
North Carolina deserves better than this. We deserve a governor who represents all his constituents to the best of his ability and doesn’t make blatant displays of his partisan allegiances.
